Sustainability

For Westergas, sustainability goes beyond technical measures and certifications. We believe that sustainability should be part of our DNA. This is why we are integrating sustainability across all functions and processes. We recognise our position as a role model in this regard and aim to inspire and motivate our customers, suppliers, and employees to embrace sustainability together.

In the coming years, we have a concrete implementation plan to further enhance the sustainability of our historic buildings, events, and organisation. Curious about what’s happening right now? Here’s a brief overview of Westergas’s current initiatives.

Now and in the future
  • We collaborate primarily with local partners in Catering, Cleaning, AV, and Waste Management. This includes B Corp partner The Food Line Up and our partnership with Oscar Circulair to reduce residual waste from our tenants and events and to minimise logistical movements on the park.
  • We have invested heavily in additional insulation and LED lighting in the event buildings. The switch to LED provides as much as 65% less energy consumption than the old halogen lighting. The insulation of the buildings provides about 30% savings.
  • We have inventoried our CO2 footprint and are actively working on a plan to reduce CO2 emissions from both our events and real estate.
  • Since 2022, the Gashouder has been gas-free and equipped with over 1,200 solar panels, which primarily generate energy for both the venue and the local community.
  • Within our internal organisation, we prioritise personal development through coaching and tailored training programs, offer healthy communal lunches, host bootcamp sessions on Thursdays, and operate as a self-organising team.
  • We’ve also initiated a feasibility study to explore how we can make our historic buildings more sustainable. Our goal is to gradually transition these buildings off gas, improve insulation, and explore options for generating energy on-site.
  • Our Westergas Foundation represents our commitment to making art and culture more accessible for every Amsterdam resident.

Achieving B Corp certification is a significant milestone, and we are focused on implementing our policies and actions to meet our sustainability goals.
